*Intel lists the maximum drive size at 16 Exabytes. explains how the Embedded MegaRAID Software monitors the status of storage configurations and devices and displays information about them. The following list is for any one that might one day need this information, it is pulled from intel and lists maximum disk size: It is related to the SCSI Command Descriptor Block (CDB) this card is only capable of running in a mode of SCSI called READ10/WRITE10 which has an addressable limit of 2TB.Īnything that uses the modern version of SCSI in mode READ16/WRITE16 has a limit of about 8 Zettabytes (I like to know the why for everything) So I dug in and found that basically. While I believe everyone was right about the 2 TB limit I couldn't find any information about why this was. I don't have much experience with storage (hence the homelab) yet so any suggestions are welcome.Įdit: Thanks for the feedback everyone. Then tried to configure again only to have the physical disks showing as 2 TB capacity.

Try to connect the disk alone to another computer to see whether the problem is the disk, the cable or the. Try to reconnect the disk and/or reboot the server.

It seems that the controller cant talk properly to the disk (no serial number, no vendor or product. I used it to flash the firmware rebooted. I think the problem is the capacity (0 Bytes).
#Lsi megaraid storage manager 1068e update#
First thing I have done is update the firmware to the latest available (package 11.0.1-0048, version 1.40.342-1650), I loaded a temporary windows host OS to do this and I am running the MegaRAID Storage Manager tool. I have an LSI MegaRAID 8888ELP SATA/SAS, I have 4 Toshiba 3TB hard drives connected, however the LSI is only seeing them as 2TB. So I am building my first SAN for my home lab.
